Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference

ESSENTIALS
committee

The Hands4Hope Essentials Committee provides families experiencing food, clothing, and household item insecurity on the western slope of El Dorado County with nourishment and access to essential resources like clothing and toiletries.

The Essentials Committee has the following responsibilities:

 
  • Host monthly essential item distributions out of the Hands4Hope Placerville Youth Center.
  • Work with ASPIREKids to run resource closets at middle and high schools in El Dorado County to provide on-campus access to food, toiletries, clothing, and school supplies.
  • Assist ASPIREKids with homecoming and prom pop-up shops, as well as warm clothing distribution
  • Facilitate collection drives within the community for food, toiletries, clothing and shoes.

Youth in 7th through 12th grade participate in this year-long committee, which runs June 2024 through May 2025. Adult mentors are needed as well.

Food Collection Drives 

 

The Emergency Food Pantry was initially stocked by the generous donations made at the Hands4Hope - Youth Making a Difference Fall Food Roundup held September 2020 where over 3,000 pounds of food were collected. Through the help of community food drives. The pantry has also received supplemental dried, canned and fresh goods from Placer and Twin Lakes Food Banks. The Emergency Food Pantry has collected 7,367 pounds of food since January 2021 when the pantry opened.

Monthly Food  Pantry Distributions 

 

Since January 2021, the Emergency Food Pantry has distributed approximately 225 nourishing food boxes to families in need as identified by the El Dorado County Office of Education. Each box weighs approximately 30 - 35 pounds and is filled with canned food, dried goods and fresh items including milk, butter, bread, eggs and produce.
